Varun Ganapathy Shines at Murugappa Centenary Open Golf Championship 2025

The Murugappa Centenary Open Golf Championship 2025, held at Mercara Downs Golf Club,  witnessed some spirited performances across categories, as golfers from various handicap divisions showcased their skill and consistency on the greens. The event, held on Sunday, drew enthusiastic participation and concluded with a string of impressive scores.

In the Open Stroke Play (Handicap 0-14) category, Varun Ganapathy emerged the overall winner, carding an outstanding 69 Gross, while Ranjith K.P finished runner-up with 72 Gross. Ganapathy also recorded the most number of birdies, with an impressive six to his name.

The Handicap Stroke Play (0-18) section saw a close contest, with C.B. Muthanna clinching the top spot on a 67 Net, edging out Kariappa C.P on a better back nine (32 Net against 36 Net).

In the Handicap Stableford (19-24) division, Devaiah M.A took top honours with 40 points, followed by Srinivas on 38 points.

Meanwhile, in the Open Stableford, Paritosh Ganapathy scored 29 points to claim the title, narrowly ahead of Ponnappa I.K, who tallied 28 points. Ponnappa, however, compensated by winning the Longest Drive award.

In the Handicap Stableford (0-18) category, Akhil Muthanna and Aravind G.B both scored 38 points, with Akhil prevailing on countback.

Among the seniors, I.K. Anil topped the Seniors (60 years and above) Open Stroke Play category with a Gross score of 82, while Vikram Alagawadi followed closely with 83 Gross.

In the Senior Citizens (65 years and above) Stableford (full handicap) division, Murugappan M.M triumphed with 34 points, ahead of Gurumallesh with 32 points.

The Closest to the Pin award went to Vikranth K.U, who landed his shot just 1.4 feet from the cup-an impressive display of precision.

The championship concluded on a celebratory note, marking another successful edition of the Murugappa Centenary Open, which continues to encourage competitive and recreational golf in the region.
