Kundyolanda Dinesh Cariappa is a thorough gentleman, phenomenal team player, gets the best out of the people, humble and a fantastic DOER. We have never known him to say anything is not possible.

The Kundyolanda Hockey Festival, the lunch provided for the largest gathering at Kodavamme Balo Nadp, the mover and lead organizer of the successful Yuva Mela – all executed with quiet panache. When confronted he would generously state with a trademark beatific and serene smile that it was entirely the effort of the team. May his tribe grow!

The Coorg Hotels and Resorts Association (COHERA) has been allotted office space at the Department of Tourism in Madikeri.

The Association expressed its gratitude to Deputy Commissioner Venkata Raja, IAS, for facilitating the allotment, which marks a significant milestone in COHERA’s growth and operations.

COHERA also acknowledged the support extended by B. Basappa, Deputy Director, Department of Tourism, Madikeri, in meeting the association’s operational requirements.

  1. We thank the Deputy Commissioner and the Tourism Director for considering our request and allotting an office space alongside the Karnataka Tourism Department office at Madikeri.
This will help address issues more effectively and provide greater convenience for citizens to attend to their grievances and other requirements.

  2. Read the comments re: COHERA being provided space at the Department of Tourism in Madikeri. This is such an important step of working together with the District Administration.

Is there anything that we can call Coorg Toursim – what does it mean? There is a lot to learn from the world around us.
    – Do our Hotels and Resorts provide itineraries (and not “experiences”) to their guests instead of them floundering for what they need to do?
    – Is “Responsible Tourism” understood by the various stakeholders – Resorts, Hotels, HomeStays and most importantly District Administration?
    – Do the burgeoning tourists who visit Coorg understand the fragility of the landscape and resources; their duties as visitors and conduct themselves in a manner that respects the local culture?
    – Some of the iconic landmarks of Coorg are the Fort at Madikeri, Nalaknad Palace – they represent the essence of our History and ASI should work with local stakeholders for its revival in a meaningful manner. Apparently Nalaknad Palace has already been allocated to an organization from outside the State – that doesn’t bode well at all for Coorg.
    – Large Plantations like BBTC and erstwhile Consolidated Coffee, now TATA Coffee need to maintain the integrity of the properties, especially the Colonial bungalows.

In the fullness of time COHERA and community organizations like the Akhila Kodava Samaja can work with the District Administration to give Tourism the importance that it deserves. Coorg DOES NOT require large resorts – it needs our HomeStays and smaller Hotels to deliver an experience that can be identified with Coorg, under the overall umbrella of RESPONSIBLE TOURISM.

  3. Truly touched and humbled by your kind words, thank you so much! I’ve always believed that nothing is impossible when you’re surrounded by a passionate, committed team and a supportive community. Events like the Kundyolanda Hockey Festival, Kodavamme Balo Nadp, and the Yuva Mela were successful only because of the collective spirit and energy everyone brought in. I’m just one part of that bigger picture. Grateful for your encouragement—it inspires me to keep doing more. May we continue to grow and uplift each other!

Ganesh Anna, Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement! It truly means a lot. The progress we’ve made is the result of collective effort and the unwavering support of the entire team and administration. I’m deeply grateful for the trust and belief you’ve shown—looking forward to continuing this journey together and making a meaningful impact. Thanks again!

  4. This has been made possible only because of the fantastic rapport Dinesh has built with the district administration. The introductory para succinctly traces all the traits that make Dinesh such a wonderful leader. YES DINESH IS AN EXTRA ORDINARY DOER AND AN AMAZING TEAM PLAYER who has a knack to get the best out of his entire team. All the best Dinesh, more feathers on your already crowded HAT.

    • I agree entirely with Ganesh Aiyanna as regards Dinesh Cariappa.

COHERA received a major overhaul thanks to the new Management Committee. An unprecedented number of members have subscribed to the amended and relevant charter that subscribes to RESPONSIBLE TOURISM.

With an expected tourism footfall of 25 Lakhs this year – an incredible increase of 40% yoy, it is extremely important for the District Administration, COHERA and responsible citizens organizations like Akhila Kodava Samaja to step in and “manage” the various aspects of uncontrolled tourism. The district will crumble if this does not happen.
