Filmmaker Yashoda Prakash, hailing from Madikeri and winner of the National Award for her film Kandeelu, was felicitated by Member of Parliament Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyar at a function organized by the Kodagu Journalists’ Association. The felicitation took place during the Vision Kodagu event held at the Satkar Hall of Red Bricks Inn in Madikeri. MP Yaduveer honored Yashoda Prakash, the producer and director of Kandeelu, which was awarded the National Award for Best Regional Kannada Film.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Yaduveer congratulated Yashoda Prakash for her remarkable achievement, noting that she is the third woman director in Karnataka to win a National Award. He expressed hope that the award would inspire her to create more outstanding films. In response, Yashoda Prakash said that receiving the National Award was a great honor and a pleasant surprise. She extended heartfelt gratitude to the well-wishers of Kodagu who supported her journey into cinema and dedicated the award to the hardworking team behind Kandeelu.
Kodagu Journalists’ Association President Anil H.T. remarked that the selection of a film by a Kodagu-based director for the 71st National Film Awards (2023) is a moment of pride for the district’s art lovers. He emphasized that the honor is a tribute to Kodagu and expressed hope that the region’s natural beauty would continue to inspire Yashoda in her future works. Association General Secretary Suresh Biligeri, journalist G. Chidvilas, and Kottukatthira Prakash were also present during the event.
