Kodagu Hockey Talent Returns to National Spotlight

Comments:

After a long gap, a talented hockey player from Kodagu, Chandura Poovanna, has once again brought pride to the district by securing a place in the Indian senior national hockey team.

Kodagu, known for producing many national-level hockey players, once had a strong presence in the Indian team, with at least one player from the district representing the country. However, in recent years, no players from Kodagu had made it to the senior national squad.

Chandura Poovanna’s selection for the upcoming Indian team’s tour of Australia marks a significant achievement and a proud moment for Kodagu’s sporting legacy.

  1. Great to see Poovanna representing the Indian hockey team!

Hat’s off to his primary coach, Mr. Ammandira Chetan, who has quietly shaped many young talents at KALS, Coorg.
We must recognize such silent contributors who work behind the scenes to build champions.

Coorg truly deserves a dedicated sports fund to support its talented and deserving athletes. It should be a Public Private Partnership approach where local planters, Kodava Samajas, Corporates and the District Administration/Local political representatives work together.
