World Environment Day was observed at Gandhi Bhavan, themed “End Plastic Pollution Globally”, with participation from the District Administration, Legal Services Authority, Forest Department, Eco Clubs, and educational institutions.
District and Sessions Judge B. Parameshwara Prasanna inaugurated the event by planting a sapling and urged citizens to protect the environment for future generations. He stressed the hazards of plastic pollution and emphasized personal responsibility.
DC Venkat Raja stated that protecting land, water, and forests is essential and said students should act as environment ambassadors. Member Secretary Shubha highlighted everyday steps like using cloth bags, managing waste at home, and planting trees in one’s mother’s name.
Various dignitaries including DCF Abhishek, Science Council President T.G. Premakumar, and Scouts Commissioner Jimmy Sequeira also addressed the gathering. Students showcased posters with Eco-friendly messages. Forest officers, students, and organization representatives took part in the program.
