World Sparrow Day is celebrated on the 20th of March every year to raise awareness about the importance of birds like Sparrows in our ecosystem. This day encourages people to take action to prevent the upcoming future extinction of different – different bird species.
It also aware peoples about the rise or increase in pollution and Global warming worldwide. The world gets together to protect the sparrows of their country by taking the Initiative to celebrate the 20th of March as World Sparrow Day worldwide.
This initiative was taken by the Nature Forever Society in India and the Eco-System Action Foundation in France joined hands with other national and international organizations worldwide. All environmentalists come together in their countries and celebrate World Sparrow Day together and also educate their country’s Youth and other people about the importance of Sparrows in our ecosystem.
World Sparrow Day Theme 2024
- The theme for World Sparrow Day in 2024 is “Sparrows: Give them a tweet-chance!”, “I Love Sparrows” and “We Love Sparrows”.
- The main goal is to spread awareness about the increasing pollution worldwide. Pollution is the main cause of the extinction of many species of birds and animals.
- It is also celebrated to encourage Youth of every country to
know the importance of birds in our ecosystem. - The 20th of March celebration is a message to the world about how humans love nature and want to protect it from any condition.
- The objective is to motivate others to join in the celebrations and to get as many people interested as possible in the protection of sparrows and their habitat across the world.
- In 2024 people are taking initiatives like building small homes for their local different species of birds at their windows, terraces, rooftops and planting more and more trees for the Future, and trying to minimize the cutting of trees because trees are the homes of the birds.
History of World Sparrow Day
- World Sparrow Day was first started or celebrated on 20th March 2010.
- Mohammad Dilawar was the Indian conservationist and founder of Nature Forever Society, initiated to celebrate World Sparrow Day on the 20th of March and later on the Eco-Sys Action Foundation of France joined it.
- Mohammad Dilawar was named “Heroes of the Environment” for 2008 by TIME Magazine.
- The celebration highlights and aware people of the massive decrease in the population of Sparrows and other birds due to Climate Change, deforestation, Global Warming Pollution etc.
