Workshop held on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence

In collaboration with the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, District Legal Services Authority, Health and Family Welfare Department, Police Department, and Women and Child Development Department, a two-day orientation training workshop on the role of the participating departments in the implementation of the Protection of Women under Domestic Violence Act-2005 and Rules-2006 for the year 2024-25 was organised at the Shishu Kalyan Samsthe, Madikeri .

This program was inaugurated by Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Shubha and  she said – “that all girls are worshiped, and the eight deities reside in them. Girls in every household should be educated, they should know about the rights of women in society. Girls should be respected in every household”.

Rehana Sultana, State President of Stree Shakti Kotthalung, spoke and said that women should come out of the house and into the mainstream of society. Women should give more emphasis on social service and engage in social service.

Poonacha, Child Development Project Officer, Ponnampet, spoke and said that at the taluk level, the Child Development Project Department conducts close counselling for women affected by  domestic violence.

Dr. Yamini, a psychologist from the Health and Family Welfare Department, who is a resource person, spoke and said that we can see that women are in a good position in society today and are financially strong and also have a sense of belonging.

Nataraj, Deputy Director of the Women and Child Development Department, spoke and said that a workshop has been organized to inform women about legal aspects, health services, domestic violence and all these information and all the trainers should avail this facility.

The  other resource person of the program, Advocate Meenakumari, spoke and gave information about sexual abuse of children, domestic violence, and the Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at Work Act 2013.

Then the first resource person, Sumati from the police department, spoke and said that if women have any problems, they should call 112. Women and girls should be careful. It is seen that many girls are ruining their social lives by falling victim to mobile addiction. However, the government has implemented several schemes for women for their protection and security, including Mahila Santwana, Mahila Sahayavani, Mahila Sabalikaran Unit, Sakhi Centre.

Jayappa, Administrative Assistant of the Legal Services Authority, narrated the function. Savita, Assistant Child Development Project Officer of the Women and Child Development Department, welcomed the gathering, and Jayanthi, Senior Supervisor of the Deputy Director’s Office, proposed the vote of thanks. Kumuda of  Sakhi One Stop Centre offered her prayers.
