Low intensity earthquake was observed at some parts of Madikeri

Recently an earthquake has been recorded at the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Center (KSNDMC). Its epicenter was at 2.4 km northwest of the Made Gram Panchayat and was recorded at 10.49.05 am.

The intensity earthquake observed was  low, and the tremor might be spread  up to a maximum radial distance of 15-20 km from the epicenter as per the seismic intensity map of the said earthquake from the epicenter, informed officials from  KSNDMC.

Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Center also informed that this type of earthquake does not create any harm to the local community, but there will be slight shaking of earth.People need not panic as the intensity observed is low and not destructive.

The news of the earthquake in a few places, including Second Monnangeri and Bettathooru village, circulated wide spread  on WhatsApp groups.

Ananya Vasudev from the District Disaster Management Authority informed that the epicenter was located 4 km from Madikeri town and 23.8 km from the Harangi dam. Since it was a minor tremor, people should  not worry  much, he said.
