The party members and leaders of Kodagu BJP has recently done a day and night protest at Old Private bus stand in Madikeri, demanding the fulfillment of various demands, including the retaining the Kodagu University, in the district and deviation of funds meant for SC and ST communities and not to transfer C and D land to the Forest department.
Speaking at the protest MP Yaduveer Wadiyar informed that due to financial failures and not providing necessary assistance to Universities, the state government is talking about merger of some university including Kodagu University with other Universities, which will not happen and Kodagu University will be shut down.
Speaking further, he said that the protection of our land should be our main priority since it has given us shelter and food. Earlier, during the issue of Jamma, when the BJP government ruling the state, Appachu Ranjan MLA of the ruling party and KG Bopaiah, the speaker of the assembly, protested demanding justice to Kodagu.
Now the two MLA’s of the district have to clear their vision whether they are favouring government or Kodagu, MP demanded.
Former Speaker and MLA of Virajpet KG Bopaiah speaking on the occasion said that the present congress government is cancelling many people oriented programs, implemented by the previous BJP government.
He also alleged that government is planning to close Kodagu University but to hoodwink, State government is informing students that it will merge, with another University. If Kodagu University is closed, then it will effect future of many students of the district.
Even if Kodagu University was cancelled, there is possibilities to go to court and fight to retain, he added.
During the previous BJP government, an attempt was made to build a railway fence in order to find a permanent solution to the growing man animal conflict. But Now only government made an order for 22 crore for prevention but amount has not been released, Bopaiah alleged, even before release of money , ground breaking ceremony was done. District BJP leader Appachettolanda Manu Muthappa said that the Congress government, which had been in power in State for a long period has done nothing to Kodagu and showing step mother attitude towards Kodagu.
Speaking further, he challenged the government to issue a white paper on what the government had done for the development of Kodagu.
The day and night protest concluded when the District BJP president Napanda Ravi Kalappa handed over the memorandum to the Kodagu District Additional Deputy commissioner R. Aishwarya , at the protest site.
Former deputy chief minister Ashwath Narayana Gowda, former MP Pratap Sinha, former minister MP Appachu Ranjan, former MLC Sunil Subramani and other leaders and activists participated in the protest.
