Field Marshal KM Cariappa’s 126th birth anniversary of was recently observed in Kodagu district at Field Marshal Cariappa’s memorial in Roshanara.
Air Marshal (retd) Nanda Cariappa, daughter-in-law Meena Cariappa, daughter Nalini Cariappa, retired Colonel BGV Kumar, Kodagu Vidyalaya’s administrative board director CS Gurudath, principal Sumithra, administrative officer Ravi, schoolteachers, students, NCC cadets, police personnel, and members of the public paid floral tributes at the memorial.
Speaking on the occasion Air Marshal Nanda Cariappa said that for his father, the nation always came first. Family and friends came next. The qualities of integrity and discipline, he demonstrated during his service in the military should serve as a guide for every Indian, he added.
He recalled the moment when the then chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force came to pay their final respects during Cariappa’s funeralat Roshanara.
Nalini Cariappa presented the Field Marshal Cariappa Trophy to BA Adil, a student of the National Academy School, Gonikoppa, for his essay on the topic ‘Our Role in the Conservation of the Western Ghats’. Diya Chonamma, a student of General Thimayya School, Madikeri, won the second place, while P M Umm Abiba, a student of Ankur School, Napoklu, secured the third place in the essay competition.
Students of Kodagu Vidyalaya, guided by teachers Alemada Chitrananjappa and Prathima Shetty, sang patriotic songs and bhajans loved by Cariappa.
