Plantation owners will also be booked if

labourers are involved in any criminal activities

Kodagu Superintendent of Police (SP) K Ramarajan speaking to the press persons recently has mandated all plantation owners to collect the necessary documents and details of labourers from other states including Assam before employing them.

He said that the details should include copies of the Aadhaar and voter identity cards with complete addresses and verified mobile numbers of their relatives. If they fail to collect all details, plantation owners will also be booked if labourers are involved in any criminal activities, the SP added.

Giving the example of a recent theft case at the Kote Mariamma Temple, where both the accused hailed from Assam, Ramarajan noted that such instances mandated strict checking.

Speaking about the possibility of Bangladeshi citizens arriving in the district disguised as Assamese, the SP asked people to report to police if they are suspicious of people being Bangladeshi citizens.

He said it was not possible to prevent people from other states from migrating to Karnataka for employment as the Constitution has granted a right to all citizens to reside and work anywhere in the country.
