Younger generation should stay away from drugs…SP K.Ramarajan

Kodagu District Superintendent of Police (SP) K. Ramarajan speaking at Cauvery Hall in Madikeri, recently in the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking organised by the police department said that youth of this nation should lead a good life and become good citizens of the society without spoiling their precious lives by falling victim to drug addiction or any illegal activities in their life. 

He advised students that they should stay away from drugs and must worry about their future and added that human life is very precious and one should strive hard to achieve better goals in their life.

SP also said that 101 cases were registered in 2023 regarding drugs in Kodagu district. 89.217 kg of cannabis, 154.26 grams tablet, LSD 9 blocks, 3.4 gms Cocaine was seized. In 2024 so for 31 cases were registered and 8.249 kg of ganja were seized. 

The police department is taking action against illegal drug use, consumption and transportation. In this regard, K. Ramarajan requested that if anybody want to give information about drug peddling then they can call 112 and give information. 

Speaking on the occasion Puttaraju, Deputy Director of Pre-University Department, said that drug and human trafficking is increasing among the youth, which is having a severe impact on the economic and social system of the country. He also said that students should not become victims of drugs in the society. Education, counselling and guidance are very necessary for students at this stage, he added.

Deputy Director of School Education and Literacy Department C. Ranga dhamappa informed that the youth should consult their parents and guidance to stay away from drugs and added that if their classmates are addicted to drugs, they should inform their parents.  

Speaking on the occasion Madikeri DySP Mahesh Kumar said that the development of the country will be stunted if more people are addicted to drugs and young people will die due to addiction of drugs. He advised the younger generation to stay away from bad habits to maintain good health. 

Madikeri Municipal commissioner Vijay speaking on the occasion said that consumption of drugs weakens the physical and mental capacity of a person. Drug addicts are found to be apathetic in their daily activities, engage in anti-social activities like creating unnecessary disputes. Therefore, he advised students to stay away from drugs. 

On the occasion, prizes were distributed to the winners of essay competition and painting competition. A street play on the ill effects of drugs was performed by artist Raju and team. 

Field Education Officer Doddegowda, Sadashiva Pallad, Ambekallu Naveen, Ravindra Rai and others were present on the occasion.  Madikeri town CPI P K Raju welcomed the gathering. PSI Lokesh proposed the vote of thanks.
