The Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India (SPMCIL), under the Union Ministry of Finance, has donated two vehicles to the Karnataka Forest Department to assist in efforts to mitigate human-elephant conflict and address the difficulties faced by people in Kodagu due to wild elephant incursions.
The vehicles were handed over to the Forest Department recently under the corporation’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The two vehicles were handed over through the SPMCIL’s Mysuru unit at its premises in Metagalli. Senior Karnataka-cadre IFS officer Vijay Ranjan Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of SPMCIL, and the corporation’s directors S.K. Sinha (Human Resources) and T. Nagarajan (Finance) were present when Kodagu Conservator of Forests Sonal Vrishne received the vehicles.
Vijay Ranjan Singh said that SPMCIL provides CSR assistance every year for various activities, with a focus on areas such as education and cleanliness. He said the vehicles had been provided to the Forest Department in Karnataka to support emergency activities.
Sonal Vrishne said the vehicles would be used for departmental activities, particularly in the Somwarpet and Shanivarsanthe areas of Kodagu, where incidents involving wild elephants have increased.
Officials of SPMCIL and the Forest Department were present.
