After presiding over the district survey committee meeting to control and preventive measures of dengue and other infectious diseases held in his office hall recently Kodagu Deputy Commissioner (DC)Dr Venkat Raja directed the concerned officials to take necessary measures to control dengue and other infectious diseases in Kodagu district.
DC also informed that since mosquitoes are likely to increase during pre-monsoon, necessary steps should be taken to control mosquitoes and added that more awareness should be created among the public.
Speaking on the occasion District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. M. Satish Kumar said that 42 cases of dengue have been reported in Kodagu from January till now and informed that necessary steps have been taken to control dengue. He also said that 3,144 cases of dog bites, 89 cases of snake bites, 1,486 cases of dysentery, 2 cases of cholera, and 2 cases of malaria have been reported in the district since January.
Speaking further he said that dengue fever is a viral disease transmitted by the bite of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito. Aedes mosquitoes breed in fresh water and they bite in daylight. Dr. Satish Kumar also informed that high fever and headache, back of eyes, extreme pain in muscles/joints are symptoms of dengue fever and added that in the severe condition, bleeding in the mouth, nose, gums and scattered bleeding marks are seen on the skin.
Dr. Satish Kumar also informed that Asha workers visit their areas once in 15 days from house to house and carry out reduction of Aedes mosquito larvae and added that all the health assistants of the respective taluk are being deployed in the first and third week of every month in their town limits and they are carrying out source reduction of Aedes mosquito larvae.
In the villages where related cases of dengue were reported, their houses being surveyed and larvae if found will be destroyed, Dr. Satish Kumar said.
Reports of fever cases are also being collected from private hospitals and labs and Confirmation by ELISA method at sentinel Laboratory.
Speaking on the occasion Kodagu Zilla Panchyat Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Varnith Negi said that measures should be taken to control dengue in all parts the district and directed concerned officials to create more awareness regarding this. Assistant Commissioner Vinayak Narvade, District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Anand, District Survey Officer of Integrated Disease Surveillance Unit Dr. B L Srinivas, District AYUSH Officer Dr. Renuka Devi, various department officials were also present on the occasion.
