Realize that we too will become senior citizens one day: Subraya Sampaje
Senior Citizens Day was celebrated meaningfully under the joint auspices of Rotary Madikeri Woods, Madikeri Government First Grade Women’s College and the Rotaract Club.
Speaking after inaugurating the programme held at the Women’s College auditorium, retired Madikeri Akashvani announcer Subraya Sampaje said that we should respect the elderly, stand by them during the twilight of their lives and take care of their health. By showing love to the elderly, he said, we should realize that we too will become senior citizens one day.
Speaking while presiding over the programme, Rotary Woods President Ro. Pramila Shetty said that the path walked by the elderly is like a guiding light for younger generations.
Comparing senior citizens to the deep roots of a tree, she highlighted the importance of the programme by singing a melodious song.
Subraya Sampaje entertained the audience by singing Yakshagana songs and referring to mythological stories related to senior citizens.
Women’s College Principal Dr. Venugopal called for caring for the elderly with love.
Rotary District 3181 Zone 6 Zone Commander Ro. Vasant Kumar said that the celebration of Senior Citizens Day should not be limited to just one day. He said that we should understand that caring for the elderly is our responsibility and take good care of them.
Rotary Woods immediate past president Ro. Kiran Kunder and Woods Secretary Ro. Smita Chengappa were present.
A documentary film depicting the journey of the senior generation, as well as the celebrations and customs of the Kudu family, was screened through a projector. The audience members who watched the documentary became emotional. Later, senior citizens were invited to the stage and given an opportunity to share their life experiences.
The senior citizens who attended the programme were honoured with umbrellas bearing the Rotary Woods name. Under the guidance of college lecturer Rakhi Poovanna, members of the Rotaract Club conducted the programme meaningfully and attracted attention.
Rotarians Dhananjaya Shastic, Ravi P., Ravindra H. and Divya Lokesh, along with teaching staff and parents, were present. The programme was inaugurated with prayers by Rotaract Club members and the watering of a flower pot.
