Madikeri: A citizens’ collective under the banner ‘Save Kodagu’, along with the Cauvery Campaign and environmental activists, has called for a mass protest on Wednesday, July 22, opposing a proposed housing venture at K. Nidungane Panchayat, near Madikeri.
According to the organisers, the protest will begin at 11.30 a.m. at the project site located behind Club Mahindra, where more than 1,200 residential sites are proposed.
The organisers have alleged that the project involves the illegal conversion of agricultural and plantation land and have claimed that more than 2,000 trees have been felled and a hill has been extensively flattened for the development. They contend that the project poses a serious environmental hazard to Madikeri town and could cause significant ecological damage to the surrounding areas.

The protest has been organised under the slogan “Save Kodagu”, with participants expected to demand accountability and seek protection of the district’s environmental heritage.
The organisers claim that the project is a MUDA (Madikeri)-approved venture involving the Karnataka Urban Housing Board and Pratipathi Constructions, and alleges that the development is environmentally destructive. The organisers have appealed to concerned citizens, environmentalists and members of the public to participate in the protest.
