State-Level Hockey Tournament Held in Bengaluru
The Kodagu District Government Employees Men’s Hockey Team has qualified for the national-level tournament after an impressive performance in the State-Level Hockey Tournament.
The State-Level Govt. Employees Sports Tournament was jointly organised by the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports and the Karnataka State Government Employees Association at the Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa Hockey Stadium in Bengaluru.
The Kodagu District Government Employees Association Men’s Hockey Team, led by captain B.T. Poornesh, defeated the Mysuru District team by a commanding margin of 7-1 to secure qualification for the national tournament.
For Kodagu, Jagruth, B.T. Poornesh, D.C. Sanjith, Harshal, Chandrashekhar and P.S. Satish scored a goal each to ensure a convincing victory.
Other members of the team included Danny Eerappa, Moun Monnappa, G.K. Manjunath, Poonacha, Subbaiah, Machaiah, Ratish, Srinivas Rai, Dayanand Prakash, V.N. Uthappa, Somanna and Raghu, all of whom contributed significantly to the team’s success.
With this victory, the Kodagu District Government Employees Association team has won the state-level hockey championship for the 22nd consecutive time and earned selection to the National Hockey Tournament.
Expressing his happiness, Kodagu District Government Employees Association President M.C. Arun Kumar said that the team’s continued qualification for the national tournament has brought immense joy to sports lovers across Kodagu, a district widely regarded as the cradle of Indian hockey.
Team captain B.T. Poornesh stated that the Kodagu District Men’s Hockey Team will represent Karnataka in the National Men’s Hockey Tournament scheduled to be held in October this year.
