Health information on social media is not always reliable: Dr. K.T. Rajashree

In an era where health-related information is widely circulated through social media platforms, people should seek treatment based on the advice of qualified medical professionals rather than believing unverified claims, said Dr. K.T. Rajashree, physician at Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences.

She was speaking after inaugurating a health check-up camp organised by Rotary Misty Hills at the Rotary Hall in Madikeri.

Dr. Rajashree noted that medical science and treatment methods continue to evolve over time. Therefore, people should not blindly follow treatments or health practices that may have been relevant in the past. With advancements in medical technology, a large amount of health-related information is being disseminated through social media. However, rather than relying on such information, individuals should consult qualified doctors and undergo appropriate treatment, she advised.

Speaking on the occasion, Rotary District 3181 Public Image Committee Vice-Chairman Anil H.T. said that Rotary is implementing a project called “The Gift of Sound” to assist people with hearing impairments. Through donor support, hearing aids are provided to beneficiaries. He further stated that Rotary is planning to implement another initiative, “Touching the Little Hearts,” aimed at addressing the increasing incidence of hearing impairment among children. Under the project, free surgeries will be provided to needy children suffering from hearing loss.

Highlighting Rotary’s global service initiatives, Anil H.T. said that Rotary’s sustained efforts played a significant role in the eradication of polio worldwide. Except for a solitary reported case in Pakistan, the world today remains virtually polio-free, he added.

Rotary Misty Hills President Ratnakar Rai said that the organisation conducts health camps every year. This year’s camp was organised for members and family members of Rotary Madikeri, Rotary Woods and the Inner Wheel Club.

Among those present were Rotary Misty Hills Executive Director B.K. Kayappa, who was felicitated during the function; incoming President P.R. Rajesh; Executive Director Dr. Chetan Shetty; Inner Wheel Executive Director Namitha Rai; Rotary Woods President Kiran Kunder; Executive Director Pramila Shetty; and several specialist doctors including Dr. C.R. Prashanth, Dr. Rajeshwari, Dr. Chandra shekhar, Dr. Rakesh, Dr. Shubha K.G., Dr. S.M. Chetan, Dr. Rajashree, Dr. Naveen and Dr. Jishma, who conducted medical examinations.
