A two-day skill development workshop titled “Skills for the Real World Beyond Books” was organized by the Joyce Literary Club of the Department of English at Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College, in collaboration with the Alumni Association. The workshop was conducted at the college seminar hall.
The programme commenced with a prayer rendered by second-year B.Com students Chondamma, Sapna, and Likhita. This was followed by a welcome address delivered by Poonachha K.M., Associate Professor in the Department of English.
In her introductory remarks, Prof. Nayana Kashyap, Head of the Department of English and President of the Joyce Literary Club, emphasized the importance of holistic student development. She stated that it is essential for students to actively participate in co-curricular and extracurricular activities alongside their academic pursuits, adding that such workshops play a crucial role in building self-confidence and essential life skills.
Bollajira Ayyappa, President of the Alumni Association, who attended the event as a guest, noted that such initiatives are highly beneficial to students and contribute significantly to their personality development.
The resource person for the workshop, Prof. Jocelyn T. Lobo, expressed her view that the two-day programme would help bring out the inherent talents of students and enable them to recognize and realize their potential.
Prof. Thippeswamy, Head of the Department of Economics, who addressed the gathering as the in-charge Principal, observed that despite the availability of employment opportunities in society, there remains a gap in the essential skill sets among students, underscoring the relevance of such workshops.
