The 135th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Gandhi Bhavan, under the joint aegis of the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, and Social Welfare Department.

Presiding over the event, Madikeri MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda emphasized the importance of education as a tool for social transformation, echoing Ambedkar’s vision. He urged youth to pursue higher education and achieve success through perseverance and hard work.

Deputy Commissioner S.J. Somashekar described Ambedkar as an unparalleled leader who rose above caste and religious barriers, and whose ideals remain relevant.

Assistant Professor Dr. Sandeep S. Ravanikar highlighted Ambedkar’s enduring contributions and called for introspection on issues such as caste inequality and national development.

Students who excelled in SSLC and PUC examinations were felicitated, and Social Welfare Department staff were honored for their service. Inter-caste couples were also presented with incentive cheques.

A procession was held prior to the main event, with officials and dignitaries paying floral tributes to Ambedkar’s portrait.
