A high-level Continuing Medical Education (CME) workshop on Rheumatology was recently held at the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) to strengthen medical education in Kodagu district.
The programme was jointly organized by the Karnataka Rheumatology Association and KIMS under the chairmanship of Institute Director and Dean Dr. Lokesh A.J. This was the first major programme on Rheumatology in the district since 2018 and generated significant discussion within the medical fraternity.
More than 300 participants attended the workshop, including doctors from Karnataka and other states, as well as representatives from various medical colleges.
Dr. Shivaprasad B.N. initiated the discussions through an interactive session. Academic sessions were conducted under the leadership of Dr. Manjunath, Dr. Purushottam, Dr. Sidney D’Souza, Dr. Sudhendra Rao, and Dr. Mukhyaprana Prabhu.

Scientific Session Highlights:
Types of Arthritis: Dr. Chengappa K.G. discussed the identification and treatment of various joint disorders.
Pediatric Arthritis: Dr. Prakriti J. explained arthritis in children and outlined step-by-step treatment protocols.
Laboratory Tests: Dr. Sangeetha K.N. emphasized avoiding unnecessary tests and stressed the importance of eye examinations.
Infection Prevention: Dr. Vikramraj K. Jain detailed four key measures for preventing infections in immunocompromised patients.
Special Topics: Dr. Nagaraj S. spoke on Alpha conditions, while Dr. Rangarathna discussed Lupus and emphasized multidisciplinary treatment.
Vasculitis: Dr. Ramesh Jois highlighted the importance of biopsy in diagnosing blood vessel inflammation.
Arthritis During Pregnancy: Dr. Vinod Ravindran discussed pregnancy-related arthritis and safe medication practices.
The programme concluded with a quiz and case presentation competition for postgraduate students. Cash prizes were awarded to winners and presenters.
