Members of the Codava National Council (CNC) visited Devatparamb, the site of the historic Kodava massacre of 1785, and paid homage to the those who lost their lives.
CNC President N.U. Nachappa recalled the tragic massacre and reiterated the organisation’s demand for justice and international recognition of the atrocity committed against the indigenous Kodava community. He said the massacre of December 12, 1785, continues to remain etched in the collective memory of the Kodava people.
The CNC demanded international recognition of the Devatparamb genocide, its inclusion in global genocide memorials, construction of an international-standard memorial, Scheduled Tribe status for Kodavas, and constitutional safeguards for the community’s cultural identity.
Several CNC members, including Kalianda Meena Prakash, Nandineravada Rekha Nachappa, Kalianda Prakash, Mandapada Manoj Mandanna, Apparanda Prasad, Mandapada Suraj, Apparanda Thimmaiah and Sarath Ahuja, were present and paid their respects.
