A World AIDS Day awareness programme was held on Monday at the Government Pre-University College, Madikeri. The event was jointly organised by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society, District Health and Family Welfare Department, District AIDS Control Unit, Indian Red Cross Society, Lions Club, Rotary Misty Hills and several educational institutions and NGOs.

Addressing the gathering, FMKMC College Principal Prof. M.R. Raghava stressed the importance of self-discipline and responsible behaviour in preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS. “Young people should lead meaningful and responsible lives to protect themselves and society,” he said.

District Health Education Officer Shanti informed the audience that 61 HIV/AIDS cases were reported in Kodagu district in 2025-26, and encouraged the public to utilise the free helpline 1097 for information and support.
