Zilla Panchayat CEO Anand Prakash Meena said that studying the hymns of Saint Kanakadasa is essential for leading a better life.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Kanakadasa Jayanti celebration held at Gandhi Bhavan in Madikeri, jointly organized by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, and the Department of Kannada and Culture.
Additional Deputy Commissioner R. Aishwarya said Kanakadasa, a revered saint-poet among the Dasa saints, reformed society through his devotional songs. She said his works embody the essence of the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita and promote equality and humanity.
Aishwarya emphasized that Kanakadasa’s life is a guiding light for all and that his legacy should be understood and cherished.
Kumar, Principal of Saraswati D.Ed. College, said Kanakadasa’s real name was Thimmappa Nayaka, born in Bada village in Haveri district. His compositions, such as Nalcharita, Mohana Tarangini, and Rama Dhanya Charita, made significant contributions to Dasa literature. Gangadhar, General Secretary of the Kodagu District Kuruba Sangha, said Kanakadasa was a great poet who conveyed valuable messages through his kirtans, teaching humility and condemning ego and malice. D.R. Prabhakar, District President of Sangolli Rayanna Kurubara HitarakshanaVedike, also spoke. Deputy Divisional Officer Nitin Chakki, Assistant Directors of the Kannada and Culture Department Kumar and B.C. Shankaraiah, and others were present.
