Madikeri MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda performed the bhoomi puja and formally launched a ?1.30-crore concrete road project connecting Biligere village from Mutharmudi on the Madikeri-Murnad road.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the work was being taken up under the Rs 50-crore grant sanctioned by the Chief Minister for developing rural roads into well-equipped, all-weather and durable roads.
He appealed to villagers to provide the required land for road widening and to monitor the quality of the work. He asked them to immediately inform the authorities if they were dissatisfied with the quality of construction.
Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Raj Sanghatan district president Tennira Myna said rural roads in the past were generally concreted only for stretches of 50 to 100 metres at a cost of Rs 5-10 lakh. He said the construction of concrete roads extending over kilometres at a cost of crores of rupees through the efforts of MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda was an encouraging development.
Madikeri Block Congress president H.A. Hamsa, block president Keshava, booth president Paremajalu Rajesh, block vice-president Yash Dolpady, general secretary Rawoof Sheikh, and local leaders including Mattada Dhananjay, Shivakumar, Deraje Kiran and Jaleel Murnad, along with local residents, were present.
