More than 134 applications were received during a hobli-level Public Service Campaign (Praja Seva Abhiyana) held at Krishna Convention Hall in Srimangala on Saturday.
The campaign was presided over by A.S. Ponnanna, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister and MLA of the Virajpet Assembly constituency. A large number of people participated in the four-hour programme.
Applications were submitted on issues concerning the Forest, Revenue, Land Records, Rural Development, drinking water supply, electricity, bus connectivity, healthcare and minor irrigation departments.
Ponnanna said several issues raised by the public, including applications related to housing sites, house construction and electricity connections, were resolved on the spot. He said financial assistance of Rs 1.80 lakh was provided for house construction to a family that had lost both parents. He assured the public that pending applications would also be addressed at the earliest.
He said solutions were also provided for requests concerning retaining walls and mini-bridges through the Minor Irrigation Department, housing for tribal families and road construction using the Chief Minister’s and MLA’s funds.
Ponnanna said the government had launched the Praja Seva Abhiyana to receive public grievances and requests and resolve them at the earliest. He urged officials to work in the public interest.
He said public representatives and officials, having entered public life, must conduct themselves with discipline. Their objective, irrespective of the department, should be to earn the public’s trust rather than intimidate people, he said.
Ponnanna observed that people become frustrated when their problems remain unresolved, while those who address public issues efficiently are remembered and appreciated. He urged officials to avoid unnecessary delays.
The Chief Minister’s Political Secretary also questioned the Assistant Conservator of Forests over the official’s absence from the programme.
Ponnanna instructed officials and public representatives to work diligently while they enjoy the public’s trust and adhere to proper protocol.
He announced that a taluk-level Praja Seva Abhiyana would be held at Ballamavati on October 3 under the chairmanship of the District In-charge Minister.
He said resolving the problems of the public was the responsibility of both elected representatives and officials and called for sincere efforts. He described the campaign as a bridge between the people and the administration.
During the grievance session, applicants told the MLA that although the Rural Development Department had constructed a road, the Forest Department was not permitting access through it. Forest officials attempted to explain the issue, following which Ponnanna questioned their response.
After the meeting, title deeds under Section 94C were distributed to eight beneficiaries. Sanction letters under the Sukanya Samruddhi Yojana and incentive cheques for inter-caste married couples were also distributed by the concerned departments.
The MLA distributed agricultural equipment to farmers on behalf of the Agriculture Department and sewing machines provided by the Forest Department.
Dharmaja Uthappa, District President of the Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee; Kalimada Prashanth, Taluk President; Lala Appanna, Chairman of the Akrama-Sakrama Committee; Nitin Chakki, Assistant Commissioner; Tahsildars Praveen Kumar and Sanjana; Rajesh, Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer; and other district and taluk-level officials were present.
