The Dubare Elephant Camp, one of Kodagu district’s major tourist attractions, reopened to the public from September 20, 2026, according to the Forest Department. The camp is being reopened following implementation of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) formulated by the Karnataka Government for elephant camps.
During the initial phase, camp activities will be conducted only in the morning, from 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. The timings may be extended to other periods in the coming days after reviewing the situation.
Under the new SOP, no direct physical contact between visitors and elephants will be permitted. Tourists will also be prohibited from bathing or feeding the elephants.
Visitor entry will be regulated in limited-number batches at designated time slots. Each batch will be given approximately 45 minutes, with a maximum of 150 visitors permitted per batch. Visitors will be taken around the camp and provided information under the guidance of camp guides.
The Forest Department has appealed to all visitors to strictly follow the safety instructions issued by Forest Department and camp personnel.
Public cooperation has been sought to ensure elephant welfare, visitor safety and protection of the camp environment.
