Ayalapanda Mittu Uthappa, President of the Kaloor Village Mutt-Naad Kodava Samaja, has appealed to the public to ensure that the statue of General Kodandera Subbayya Thimayya in the heart of Madikeri is treated with due respect during protests and public events.
Speaking at a press conference, he urged people not to enter the statue premises wearing footwear, litter, or engage in any form of disrespectful behaviour during protests and public gatherings.
He said instances had been observed during some protests and public events in which people climbed onto the statue platform wearing footwear, shouted slogans, littered the area and pasted banners or placards on the walls.
Uthappa said it was the responsibility of everyone to preserve the dignity of General Thimayya, whom the people of Kodagu regard with pride as a distinguished military commander and son of the district.
He urged the district administration, police department and City Municipal Council to take necessary precautionary and security measures to prevent such incidents during future protests, meetings and public events.
Vice-President Karera Vasu Joyappa, Secretary Nandira Hari Changappa, and governing board members Ravi Umesh and Chennapanda Dishanth Thimmayya were present at the press conference.
