Energy and Tourism Minister K.J. George flagged off the Kodagu Monsoon Half Marathon at the KALS School campus in Gonikoppal recently.
The mega marathon, organised jointly by the Ashwini Sports Foundation (ASF), KALS, NEB Sports Entertainment and the State Tourism Department, saw an impressive participation of 5,902 runners.
The event featured 21-km and 10-km categories, along with a special 5-km ‘Maja Run’, providing an opportunity for participants of different age groups and fitness levels to take part in the sporting event.
CM’s Political Secretary and Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna said the organisation of such a major sporting event in Kodagu, regarded as one of the country’s leading sporting districts, reflected the sporting spirit of the people and the encouragement extended to sports in the district.
“Kodagu is a land that has produced numerous outstanding sportspersons who have represented the country at national and international levels,” he said.
He wished all the participants success and hoped that they would put up an excellent sporting performance and bring laurels to the district.
