Draft voters’ list records 4,05,803 voters in district: DC
Deputy Commissioner S.J. Somashekar recently released the draft voters’ list prepared under the revised schedule of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls-2026.
Releasing the draft list during a meeting with representatives of political parties at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) said that, according to the published draft voters’ list, 567 polling booths have been set up in the district, with a total of 4,05,803 voters. Of these, 1,98,294 are male voters, 2,07,505 are female voters and four are other voters.
In the Madikeri Assembly constituency, there are a total of 2,09,115 voters, comprising 1,01,316 male voters, 1,07,797 female voters and two other voters. There are 285 polling booths in the constituency.
Similarly, according to the draft voters’ list, the Virajpet Assembly constituency has 1,96,688 voters, including 96,978 male voters, 99,708 female voters and two other voters. A total of 282 polling booths have been identified in the constituency, the Deputy Commissioner said.
The qualifying date is October 1, 2026, and claims and objections can be filed from the date of publication of the draft voters’ list, that is, from August 24 to September 23, the DC said.
He said the prescribed forms can be submitted for addition, deletion and correction of names, transfer, changes to EPIC cards and PWD marking.
The District Election Officer said the period for issuing notices and disposing of claims and objections would remain open until October 22, and urged eligible voters to make use of the opportunity.
During the Special Revision of the Electoral Roll (SIR) in Kodagu district, Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers issued notices to 58,893 voters whose names were included in the draft electoral roll after census forms were collected from voters and digitised. Inquiries were conducted, reports were obtained from Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and the final documents are now being verified, the District Election Officer said.
During the SIR process, cases of no mapping and discrepancies in mapping were identified. Therefore, in cases involving anomalies, voters are required to submit two documents, along with their Aadhaar card, from among the documents notified by the Election Commission of India. Voters whose records have not been mapped are also required to submit two such documents, he said.
The documents submitted by voters whose records have not been mapped will be verified at the District Election Officer level.
The DC said a proposal had been submitted to the Election Commission for the appointment of 73 additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officers to issue notices to the 58,893 voters and complete the verification process within the stipulated time.
Sajil Krishna of the Bharatiya Janata Party, speaking on the occasion, said the SIR process was being carried out systematically in the district and that the BLOs had also worked hard.
Divil Kumar of the Bahujan Samaj Party said there were families in the district that did not possess ration cards, Aadhaar cards, caste certificates or income certificates, and urged that arrangements be made to enable them to obtain Aadhaar cards.
Speaking on the occasion, D C S.J. Somashekar assured that Aadhaar enrolment camps would again be organised at the taluk level.
Aam Aadmi Party leaders A.K. Appaiah, Bojanna and Prithvi provided various inputs regarding the SIR process.
AC Nitin Chakki and Urban Development Planning Branch Project Director Manjunath Ramanna were present.
Revised SIR schedule
The revised schedule of the Special Intensive Revision of the Electoral Roll-2026 is as follows: The draft voters’ list was published on August 24. The period for filing claims and objections is from August 24 to September 23. The period for issuing notices and disposing of claims and objections is from August 24 to October 22, and the final voters’ list will be published on October 27.
As per the directions of the Election Commission of India, during the first phase of the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls in the 208-Madikeri and 209-Virajpet Assembly constituencies of Kodagu district, Booth Level Officers visited households from June 30 to August 17, 2026. They distributed census forms to voters, collected the completed forms and digitised them through the BLO app.
As of June 16, 2026, there were a total of 4,68,657 voters in the two Assembly constituencies of the district. Of these, census forms of 4,05,803 voters, or 86.59 per cent, were collected and digitised.
During the house-to-house visits by BLOs, 13,731 deceased voters, 33,381 permanently displaced voters, 6,046 voters whose names appeared more than once, 9,580 absent voters and 116 voters who did not submit their census forms for other reasons were identified. Together, these accounted for 62,854 voters who did not submit their census forms. The final ASDDO list – covering absent, shifted, deceased, duplicate and other cases – for the 208-Madikeri and 209-Virajpet Assembly constituencies of Kodagu district has been published on the official district website.
As per the directions of the Election Commission of India, the draft voters’ list for the two Assembly constituencies was published on August 24 at all polling booths, Gram Panchayat offices, Revenue Officers’ offices, Urban Local Body offices, taluk offices, Electoral Registration Officers’ offices and District Election Officer’s offices for public information and verification. The public has been requested to check the draft voters’ list.
The draft voters’ list has also been uploaded on the websites of the Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka, and Kodagu district.
According to the draft voters’ list published on August 24, the 208-Madikeri Assembly constituency has 285 polling booths, comprising 1,01,316 male voters, 1,07,797 female voters and two other voters, for a total of 2,09,115 voters.
The 209-Virajpet Assembly constituency has 282 polling booths, comprising 96,978 male voters, 99,708 female voters and two other voters, for a total of 1,96,688 voters.
Together, the two Assembly constituencies have 567 polling booths, with 1,98,294 male voters, 2,07,505 female voters and four other voters, taking the total electorate to 4,05,803.
October 1, 2026, is the qualifying date. Claims and objections may therefore be submitted from August 24 to September 23 in the prescribed forms for addition, deletion and correction of names, transfer, changes to EPIC cards and PWD marking.
For addition of a name to the electoral roll, Form 6 is to be used. For addition of the name of an NRI, Form 6A is applicable. Form 7 is used for removal or deletion of a name from the electoral roll. Form 8 is used for change of residence within or outside the constituency, correction of entries, changes to the Voter Identity Card and identification of Persons with Disabilities (PWD). A declaration form is required while submitting Forms 6 and 8.
Applications for Forms 6, 6A, 7 and 8 can be submitted online through the Voter Helpline App developed by the Election Commission of India and through the Voters’ Service Portal.
During the house-to-house visit, census forms were collected from voters, digitised and used for registration in the draft electoral roll. Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will issue notices to voters in the identified categories, conduct inquiries, obtain reports from BLOs, verify documents and take a final decision.
The categories include voters with no mapping, meaning those who were not present in the last 2002 SIR and were also not covered by the last SIR, and voters with discrepancies in mapping.
In Kodagu district, the 208-Madikeri Assembly constituency has 9,252 anomalies and 9,533 voters with no mapping, totalling 18,785 cases.
The 209-Virajpet Assembly constituency has 26,558 anomalies and 13,550 voters with no mapping, totalling 40,108 cases. Together, there are 35,810 anomalies and 23,083 cases of no mapping, totalling 58,893 cases.
In cases involving anomalies, voters must submit two documents from among those notified by the Election Commission of India, along with their Aadhaar card.

The documents submitted by voters whose records have not been mapped will be verified at the District Election Officer level. The documents that may be submitted by voters include an identity card or pension payment order issued to a permanent employee or pensioner of the Central Government, State Government or Public Sector Undertaking; any identity card, certificate or document issued by the Government, local authorities, banks, post offices, Life Insurance Corporation or public sector undertakings in India before July 1, 1987; a birth certificate issued by the competent authority; a passport; a matriculation or academic certificate issued by a recognised board or university; a permanent residence certificate issued by the competent authority of the State; a Forest Rights Certificate; an OBC, P.J., P.P. or other caste certificate issued by the competent authority; the National Register of Citizens, wherever it exists; a family register prepared by State or local authorities; and any land or house allotment certificate issued by the Government.
With regard to Aadhaar, the directions issued by the Election Commission vide Letter No. 23/2025-ERS/Volume II dated September 9, 2025, will apply. Aadhaar will be accepted as proof of identity, but it is not proof of citizenship, address or date of birth.
As per the directions of the Election Commission of India, a proposal was submitted seeking approval for the division or re-division of 15 polling stations in the 208-Madikeri and 209-Virajpet Assembly constituencies of Kodagu district that had more than 1,200 voters, as well as for the establishment of new polling stations and alteration of polling stations. The Election Commission of India has approved the proposal.
At present, the polling stations in the district are as follows, constituency-wise. The list of polling stations for the two Assembly constituencies has been published on the Kodagu district website.
In the 208-Madikeri Assembly constituency, there were 275 polling booths, of which 10 were divided or reallocated. There are five booth locations, taking the total number of existing polling booths to 285.
In the 209-Virajpet Assembly constituency, there were 277 polling booths, of which five were divided or reallocated. The total number of existing polling booths is 282.
Across the two constituencies, there were 552 previously existing polling booths, 15 divided or reallocated polling booths and two booth locations, taking the total number of existing polling booths to 567.
