In view of the ongoing rainy season in the district and the possibility of an increase in cold, flu, cough and other infectious diseases, hotels, restaurants and eateries have been advised to provide clean drinking water and clean hot water to customers free of cost, on a priority basis and in the interest of public health.

The powers conferred on the Food Safety Commissioner under Section 30(2)(d) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Rules, 2011, require food establishments to provide safe drinking water free of cost in the interest of public health. Customers cannot be denied access to clean drinking water.

Consumers can lodge a complaint through the FSSAI National Helpline at 1915 in case safe drinking water is not made available.

The advisory has been issued in the interest of public health and to ensure compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the regulations framed under it.

Dr. Anil Dhawan E., Designated Officer, Food Safety and Drug Administration, said the public had been informed about the measures being taken by the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department in relation to hotels, restaurants and eateries.
