District in-charge Minister P.M. Narendraswamy visited the Kartoji hill-collapse site near Madenadu on Mangaluru Road recently and inspected the affected area. He received information from engineers regarding the incident.
The Minister also visited the historic Bhagamandala Bhagandeshwar Temple and Talakaveri, the source of the River Cauvery, where he offered special prayers.
First, the Minister visited the Triveni Sangam at Bhagamandala and offered prayers. He then prayed at the Bhagandeshwar Temple for abundant rainfall, good crops and prosperity for the people of the country. He offered prayers to Lord Mahaganapati, Lord Mahavishnu and Lord Subrahmanya.
Later, he proceeded to Talakaveri, where he offered prayers to Sri Maha Ganapathi and performed special prayers to Mother Cauvery at the sacred source of the river, including the offering of kumkum.
Speaking to reporters later, the Minister said that Mother Cauvery, who gives life to the nation and provides drinking water to all living beings, should bless the Cauvery Valley and Malnad regions with abundant rainfall and bring prosperity to everyone.
He said increased rainfall in the Cauvery Valley and Malnad regions would benefit all the southern states of India in terms of drinking water and agriculture. In this regard, he said he had prayed to Mother Cauvery for more rainfall in the Cauvery Valley region.
The Minister said the monsoon had started late this year and expressed hope that there would be more rainfall in the coming days, bringing prosperity to the people of the country. He said that people were relieved as the Cauvery basin and Malnad region of the state had received good rainfall over the past 15 days. He prayed that the region would receive more rainfall in the coming days.
The status of rainfall, crops and reservoirs in the district will be reviewed and a report submitted to the government. The Kannambadi embankment is currently at 105 feet, with another 19 feet of water required to reach full capacity. The Minister said that if Mother Cauvery continued to bless the region with good rainfall, it would benefit both drinking water supplies and agriculture. Minister Narendraswamy said that, as a person from Mandya district, he would offer the first puja to Mother Cauvery seeking good rainfall and a good crop.
Kodi Motaiah, head of the Talakaveri-Bhagamandala temple, K.P. Chandrakala, D C S.J. Somashekhar, CEO of the G.P. Anand Prakash Meena, District Superintendent of Police R.N. Bindumani, Deputy Conservator of Forests Abhishek, Deputy Director of the Social Welfare Department Shekhar, Tahsildar Sridhar, Executive Officer of the temple Chandrashekhar and others were present.
Earlier, the Minister visited the famous Omkareshwara Temple in the city and offered special prayers and puja. Temple committee president Chummi Devaiah, Prakash Acharya and others were present on the occasion. Minister P.M. Narendraswamy also visited the government cowshed at K. Nidugane village in Madikeri and obtained information about its functioning. Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department Lingaraj Doddamani said there are currently 35 cattle at the cowshed. He said dry paddy straw for cattle feed is procured every year through an e-tender and stored according to requirements.
Eight acres of land have been sanctioned for the government cowshed at Madikeri, of which only two acres have so far been fenced. He said a proposal had been submitted to the government for the construction of additional cattle sheds and fodder-storage rooms.He added that fencing of another two acres was required to facilitate the cultivation of additional green fodder at the cowshed. There is currently sufficient fodder available to meet the requirements of cattle in the district for 53 weeks, and therefore there is no shortage of fodder, Lingaraj Doddamani said.Later, Minister P.M. Narendraswamy inspected the cleanliness and upkeep of the cowshed and the care being provided to the cattle and expressed his appreciation.
