Murnad: Parera Sonish Chengappa, a resident of Aikola village near Murnad, has been commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Artillery Regiment of the Indian Army.
Chengappa completed his schooling at the Rashtriya Military School and cleared the National Defence Academy (NDA) examination on his very first attempt.
He subsequently underwent three years of military training in Pune and later successfully completed a one-year officer training course at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun. He has now joined the Indian Army as a commissioned officer.
His grandfather had always encouraged him to serve the nation through the Army. Living up to that aspiration, Sonish worked hard and excelled in the examinations, ultimately earning the honour of becoming an Army officer.
Sonish hails from a family with a long association with the Indian Army. His grandfather, the late Parera D. Chengappa, had served in the Army, while his father, P.C. Jaya, also served in the Indian Army and retired as Subedar Major.
With Sonish now entering military service, the family has produced its third generation of Army personnel.
