It is truly amazing how nature responds when we protect degraded landscapes and simply step back, allowing natural processes to take over.
In the tiny village of Dari, where we began ecological restoration on 430 acres of Gram Panchayat land three years ago, an extraordinary spectacle unfolded this season. Vast swathes of Pink-striped Lily (Crinum latifolium) emerged across the landscape. We never planted them. Nature found its own way—most likely through seed dispersal and the gradual recovery of the ecosystem.
These delicate flowers bloom for only two days. Our field team kept a close watch and alerted us as soon as the first buds appeared. What followed was pure magic: thousands of lilies blooming simultaneously, transforming the landscape into a breathtaking sea of pink and white.

Witnessing this remarkable display was truly spellbinding—a powerful reminder that when we give nature a chance, it has an incredible ability to heal, regenerate, and surprise us.
Would you like to experience this amazing sight someday?

Amazing information and message from Sarayu Kamath, Coorg is known for its greenary and forest wealth unfortunately of late our forests have been looted and destroyed and Resorts are coming up like wild mushrooms and we have lost our wealth by our own greed for money it’s high time we wake before beautiful land of ours becomes a concrete jungle VERY SAD situation
Lovely message from Sarayu Kamat – RAAH Foundation does a wonderful job in regressing the Nasik Brahmagiri Range. What is absolutely laudable is that the Forest Department, Local Government (Zilla Parishat), Panchayats, Tribals and other stakeholders have found a way to work together for a common cause.
This is the route to achieving whatever we need to in Kodagu too – including the troublesome human-animal conflict that is unfortunately appearing as headlines everywhere. The political leadership has to ACT purposefully in bringing about cooperation between all those affected in the sensitive zones of attrition. Proven solutions exist if we are willing to learn and embrace solutions from other areas.
This is a powerful and hopeful peace. It reminds us that nature has an incredible capacity to heal when given the space and protection it needs.
While we continue debating development versus conservation, nature quietly demonstrates the answer. Protect a landscape, stop exploiting it, and life returns. The blooming lilies are not just flowers they are nature’s verdict on the importance of restoration.
A return to our native state, rewilding indeed is an exihilerating phenomenon.
Keep sharing with us the magic, that nature will keep unfolding, year on year ,as the forests around Dari mature into a stable Ecosystem..
Nature never ceases to surprise us….!!!
Hi Sarayu,
This is so wonderful!
Nature knows how to heal herself. Most of the times, all we need to do is give her time and space.
This article is a powerful reminder of just that.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
