Indian Women’s Hockey Team coach Ankita B.S. called upon students to give equal importance to sports and education and strive for excellence in both fields. She was speaking after inaugurating the “Sports and Talent Festival” programme held at the auditorium of Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College under Kodagu University in Madikeri.
Ankita B.S. said students should pursue higher education while simultaneously participating in sports and showcasing their talent. She noted that sports events conducted in schools and colleges inspire students to achieve success at state, national and international levels.
She observed that academic learning has no limits and that participation in sports helps individuals build confidence and shape a successful future. Recalling the pride associated with sporting achievements during college life, she stated that sports festivals are celebrations for athletes and also help in building a meaningful life.
Presiding over the programme, Principal of Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College, Major Prof. Raghav B., said student life should convey a positive message to society and serve as an example to others.
He emphasised that goals and dreams can be achieved only through hard work and dedication. Students should shine through their academic achievements and talents, develop self-confidence and strive to lead meaningful lives, he said. He further added that accomplishments during student life bring pride to parents and relatives and are remembered by society for years. Major Prof. Raghav B. said the college is committed to nurturing leadership qualities among students and credited both teaching and non-teaching staff for enhancing the institution’s reputation. He also acknowledged the support extended by donors and the alumni association.
Calling upon students to preserve college property and maintain the campus environment for future generations, he urged them to make proper use of the facilities available at the institution. Speaking as chief guest, President of the Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College Alumni Association, Bollajira B. Ayyappa, said defeat teaches valuable lessons while victory serves as a stepping stone to greater achievements. However, he cautioned that arrogance arising out of success can be dangerous.
He said every student possesses unique talent and that college programmes provide an ideal platform to showcase such abilities. He added that sports festivals conducted by the college serve as the first step towards achievements at the state, national and international levels.
He further stated that success in student life is possible only through discipline, dreams and clear goals. Appreciating the efforts of the Principal, he said every attempt is being made to ensure students do not face shortages or difficulties in any sphere and urged students to make the best use of the opportunities provided. Kodagu University Examination Department Special Officer Mechira Ravishankar Nanaiah, Co-curricular Activities Coordinator Dr. H.K. Renu, Students’ Union Advisor Prof. Sreedhar Hegde, Sports Department Coordinator Dr. Talwara B.H., office-bearers of the Students’ Union, cultural secretaries, NSS leaders, teaching and non-teaching staff and several dignitaries were present.
