Senior journalist, Editor of Brahmagiri Kodava Weekly, and former President of the Kodagu District Working Journalists Association, Ulliyada M. Poovaiah, was felicitated under the ‘Manadumbi’ programme organised by the Kodagu District Working Journalists Association.
The felicitation was conducted by the association’s management board and members under the leadership of President Bacharaniyanda Anu Cariappa. Speaking after receiving the honour, Poovaiah stated that he would continue in journalism until his last breath. He said that the profession has given him immense satisfaction and that he continues to dedicate 12 to 16 hours a day to newspaper work. He also informed that the Brahmagiri newspaper has completed 47 years of publication.
Describing the honour as unforgettable, he said he has dedicated his life to journalism.
Association President Bacharaniyand Anu Kariappa remarked that it is commendable for a Kodava newspaper to complete 47 years. He noted that Poovaiah, known for his straightforward nature, had served the association effectively as its President. Recognising his seniority and dedication, the association honoured him. He added that Brahmagiri is widely read not only in Kodagu but also by Kodagu residents across other districts, states, and countries, crediting Poovaiah and Dottie Poovaiah for this achievement.
Kodagu Press Club President Bollajira Aiyappa stated that publishing a Kodava-language newspaper continuously for 47 years is a remarkable achievement. He added that Poovaiah has nurtured several writers and that the contributions of the Poovaiah couple are noteworthy.
Association Secretary Mallikarjun observed that the ‘Manadumbi’ programme helps in understanding and appreciating the struggles and contributions of senior journalists. He expressed satisfaction in honouring such individuals.
Speaking on the occasion, Brahmagiri Sub Editor DottyPoovaiah said that it is gratifying to see the association recognise and respect senior journalists. She remarked that the newspaper has been instrumental in earning them societal recognition and described it as their “first child”.
Association Vice-President Naveen Suvarna, Treasurer Sunil Ponnetti, Directors Chitan and Abdullah, and members Manju Suvarna and Lohit M.R. were present.
