Deputy Commissioner S.J. Somashekar emphasised the importance of safety for electrical workers while addressing the ‘Power Men/Linemen Day’ programme organised by Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC) at its divisional office in Madikeri.
He said electrical work is highly sensitive and workers should carry out their duties without pressure while strictly adhering to safety norms.
Highlighting the importance of electricity supply for homes, offices and industries, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated the dedication of linemen who work under challenging conditions. He noted that in Kodagu district, heavy rains often damage electric poles and transformers, and linemen work tirelessly to restore power despite risks.He advised workers to always wear safety gear such as helmets and gloves while on duty and urged them to remain confident but not overconfident while handling electrical work.
Mandrira Mohandas, President of the Taluk Unit of the Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee, said people become anxious even if power supply is disrupted for a few minutes, and appreciated the efforts of linemen who work in difficult conditions, especially during the rainy season.
Senior linemen Ratnaiah and Shivanna also spoke on the occasion and stressed the importance of safety while performing their duties.
CESC Executive Engineer Ramachandra said that despite a shortage of linemen, efforts are being made to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
Assistant Executive Engineer Vinay Kumar, Assistant Engineer Teja, Hemanth Kumar, Accountant Darshan, Sudeep, Electricity Contractors Association District Secretary Mamataraj, Nagaraju and others were present.
The programme concluded with the celebration of Power Men’s Day by cutting a cake.
