On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, the Codava National Council (CNC) staged a ‘Kodava Satyagraha’ in front of the District Collector’s office, demanding inclusion of the Kodava language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

CNC President N.U. Nachappa submitted a memorandum urging constitutional recognition of Kodava Tak and its implementation in administration and education under relevant constitutional provisions.

He argued that inclusion in the Eighth Schedule would provide legal, cultural, and educational benefits, facilitate official usage, enable financial assistance from the Central Government, and strengthen preservation of Kodava heritage.

Nachappa also raised concerns about alleged distortion of original Kodava place names and festivals, stating that such changes undermine the community’s identity and heritage.

The delegation submitted its petition to the District Administration, reiterating demands for official recognition, technological support for Kodava language software, and correction of administrative nomenclature from ‘Madikeri District’ to ‘Kodagu District’.
