Coorg Public School and College observed Indian Army Day recently, a significant occasion to commemorate the courage, dedication, and selfless service of the Indian Armed Forces, particularly marking General K.M. Cariappa taking command in 1949. The celebration aimed to instil patriotism and respect for our soldiers among the cadets& students.
Special assembly was conducted to commemorate the 78th Indian Army Day, honouring the bravery and sacrifices of our nation’s soldiers. The event marked the historic occasion in 1949 when Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army.
The assembly began with the traditional morning prayer, followed by a respectful floral tribute to Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa. The school paid homage to the legendary leader who, on this day in 1949, became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, marking the transition from British to Indian military leadership.

Cadet Thanvi Pradidelivered an Inspiring speech detailing the significance of Army Day. Multimedia presentation highlighted the Indian army day 2026 parade in Jaipur, showcasing soldier’s rigorous rehearsals & indigenous military might. The video served as a patriotic reminder of the Indian Army’s crucial role and nation’s deep respect for its soldiers, especially as they prepared for the big day on January 15.
A patriotic song, Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja, was sung by the Cadets, reaffirming their spirit of unity and devotion which resonated across the campus.
The highlight of the assembly was the inspiring address by the school principal Dr. M Ramachandran, who appreciated the Army’s multifaceted role, which extends beyond guarding borders to assisting civilians during natural disasters and peace keeping missions.
He also explained how the 2026 Indian Army day theme reflects the Army’s ongoing modernization. He encouraged the students to draw inspiration from the Army’s values of discipline and self-reliance and the critical role technology plays in modern nation building and defense.
