A minority delegation of the Kodagu District Congress, led by Chief Minister’s Legal Advisor and Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna and Madikeri MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda, met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and submitted a memorandum seeking representation for minorities in the Legislative Council and chairmanships in various corporation boards.

The delegation drew the Chief Minister’s attention to the fact that minorities in Kodagu district have consistently supported the Congress party over the years. They stated that nearly 99 per cent of minorities in the district have stood firmly with the party in successive elections, thereby strengthening the Congress without extending support to other political parties.

The delegation pointed out that despite Congress MLAs being elected from both constituencies in Kodagu district and the Congress being in power at the state level, minorities from the district have not been given any positions of authority. They urged the Chief Minister to recognise their sustained support by providing them representation through Legislative Council seats and chairmanships in corporation boards.

Speaking on the occasion, Congress Minority Unit State Secretary M.A. Usman said that the two MLAs from Kodagu district are working effectively for the welfare and development of the people. He noted that several development works, which had not been taken up in the past 25 years, are now being implemented. He added that the minority community has consistently supported these efforts and deserves appropriate recognition.

The two MLAs also explained and endorsed the demands of the minority leaders before the Chief Minister.

Kodagu District Congress Committee Vice-President Abdul Rehman, Block Congress Presidents Ismail K.A. and Hans H.A., KPCC member K.A. Yakub, Kudige Hamid and other minority leaders were present.
