The District Administration and the Soldiers’ Welfare and Rehabilitation Department recently observed Armed Forces Flag Day with solemnity and respect.
Major General Kalengada C. Cariappa (Retd.), Air Marshal Nanda Cariappa (Retd.), Assistant Commissioner Nitin Chakki, Additional Superintendent of Police Barike Dinesh Kumar, Group Captain Manu Bheemayya (Retd.), Air Commander Devaiah (Retd.), Lt. Colonel Kaverappa (Retd.), Colonel Nachappa (Retd.), Soldiers’ Welfare and Rehabilitation Department’s B.R. Shetty, District Treasurer Raghunath, retired Army officers, NCC cadets and others offered wreaths at the war memorial located in the premises of the General Thimmaiah Memorial Hall in Madikeri.

A two-minute silence was observed in memory of soldiers who laid down their lives in service of the Nation. The police unit presented a three-round gun salute. Maj. Gen. K.C. Cariappa (Retd.) formally released the Armed Forces Flag.
Chennakeshava of the ARSI team of the Police Department conducted the tribute programme. The police band also paid its respects with a musical homage. Ex-servicemen, police personnel, NCC cadets and members of the public joined in paying tribute.
Speaking on the occasion, Maj. Gen. K.C. Cariappa noted that Punjab ranks first in the country in army recruitment, while Kodagu district ranks third within the state. He observed that although Kodagu once contributed a large number of personnel to the armed forces, recent years have seen a decline for various reasons.
Maj. Gen. K.C. Cariappa appealed to young people to consider joining the Indian Army and serve the nation.
