World Senior Citizens Day celebrated in Madikeri

Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Shubha, inaugurated the cultural and sports competitions organized to mark World Senior Citizens Day.

The events were held near General Thimmaiah District Stadium in Madikeri and featured cultural and sports activities for senior citizens.

Prasanna Kumar, Deputy Director of the Women and Child Development Department, presided over the programme. The sports events included brisk walking for men and women aged 60 to 69, a musical chair competition, and a ball-throwing event for senior citizens aged 70 and above.

In addition, cultural activities such as one-act plays and singing competitions were conducted. Separate programmes were arranged for men and women in the 60-69 and 70+ age groups.

On the occasion, a health check-up camp was organized by the AYUSH Department for senior citizens.

Those present at the programme included Somwarpet Retired Employees Association President C.K. Mallappa, Senior Citizens Forum Presidents Suresh and Shankari Pennappa, Madikeri Retired Employees Association President Madamayya, District AYUSH Officer Shailaja, District Disabled Welfare Officer Vimala, and presidents and staff of voluntary organizations in the district along with office staff.
