Karnataka Land Revenue (Second Amendment) Bill Sent to Select Committee
The Karnataka Land Revenue (Second Amendment) Bill, introduced to resolve long-pending complications in Kodagu’s land records, has been referred to a select committee after drawing objections from Congress legislators themselves.
The amendment aimed at addressing the peculiarities of the Jamma Bane landholding system in Kodagu. However, concerns were raised that the proposed changes could contradict existing revenue practices.
“In several cases, the name of a deceased family head(Pattedara) continues in the records, which is not permissible under revenue laws. We want such anomalies corrected, but this Bill does not serve that purpose,” said Virajpet MLA A. S. Ponnanna.
Acknowledging the sensitive nature of Kodagu’s revenue matters, Minister Patil remarked that sending the Bill to a select committee was a suitable step forward.
