Kodagu Deputy Commissioner (DC) Venkat Raja speaking on the occasion of Gandhiji’s 155th birth anniversary and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastry’s 120th birth anniversary at Gandhi Bhavan, Madikeri recently said that Mahatma Gandhi was always saying that ‘My life is my message’ and added that everyone has to lead their life in good way so that everyone will remember it.
Rashrapita Mahatma Gandhiji and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastry’s birth anniversary was jointly celebrated by District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Information and Publicity Department, Kannada and Culture, School Education and Literacy, Pre-Graduate Education, College Education Department, Municipal Council, Sarvodaya Samathi, Kannada Sahitya Parishad, Scouts and Guides, Janapada Parishad and Bharatiya Seva Dal.
Speaking further the DC said that Mahatma Gandhi’s effigy can be seen in our Nation and as well as abroad including in the United Nations and added that world organization has declared and celebrated Gandhiji’s birthday as the World Day of Non-Violence.
DC also that world leaders follow the life teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and explained that the life of Mahatma Gandhi and the simple life of Lal Bahadur Shastry are role models for all of us he added.
P. Ramesh, the former president of Sarvodaya Samathi, speaking on the occasion described Mohan Das Karamchand Gandhi as a Mahatma who was born as a common man and grew up with simple and straightforwardness and brought freedom with the great values of truth, peace and non-violence and established peace for the entire world.
Mahatma Gandhi worked hard to get freedom by bringing everyone together and hehad travelled across the country for freedom and created awareness.
Speaking further T. P. Ramesh said that Gandhiji was a great social reformer, satyagrahi, journalist, pioneer of village swaraj and worked in different fields.
Ramesh also said that Lal Bahadur Shastry was the second Prime Minister of India and was known for his simplicity and gentlemanliness and added that he had given more importance to the army and agriculture.
G. Anantashayana, president of Kodagu District Janapada Parishad district unit, said that everyone should study books and newspapers to know Gandhiji’s ideologies.
Mahatma Gandhi fought for India’s freedom through the path of non-violence and added that struggle for truth is a lesson taught by Gandhiji.
Anantashayana further said that the simple personalityof Mahatma Gandhi who brought freedom through satyagraha from the path of nonviolence made him a Mahatma.
Kodagu District Additional Deputy Commissioner R.Aishwarya speaking on the occasion described Mahatma Gandhi as the symbol of independence, the embodiment of village swaraj, everyone’s favorite Bapu and added that the concept of village upliftment was coined by Mahatma Gandhi.
Chief Commissioner of Scouts and Guides, K T Baby Mathew said that it is special that Mahatma Gandhi visited Karnataka state many times and also visited Kodagu district.
