CPI (Marxist Leninist) Party National General Secretary Pradeep Singh Thakur addressing the media at Madikeri recently has urged the government to implement recommendations of the Madhav Gadgil Committee report on the Western Ghats.

He said that implementing the Gadgil Committee report was the need of the hour. “The Wayanad disaster should be a wake-up call for the government” and added that there was a need to stop all unscientific development works which were detrimental to environment.

While terming the NDA government in the Centre as Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu dependent Alliance and alleged that the government had given maximum grants to Bihar and Andhra Pradesh in the recent union budget.

Party State Committee Secretary DH Poojar accused that the state government in Karnataka had continued to have in place the anti-farmer laws introduced by the previous BJP government. He demanded that such rules be withdrawn.

Party National committee Member Nirvanappa said the government had been targeting small farmers instead of acting against influential people who had encroached upon vast tracts of government land.

Party leaders Annappa and Prakash were present in the press meet.
