BJP leaders in Madikeri staged a protest at General Thimayya Circle recently amid rains opposing the detention of BJP state president BY Vijayendra during a protest in Mysuru. The protestors shouted slogans against Chief Minister (CM) Siddaramaiah and demanded his resignation. Speaking on the occasion BJP leader K G Bopaiah (KGB) said that the state government was misusing its power to suppress protests by the opposition.
KGB said that BJP state president BY Vijayendra, opposition Leader R Ashoka and other leaders were on their way to Mysuru to stage a protest but the police took them into custody near Ramanagara. Siddaramaiah is facing accusations of many scams and the cases should be handed over to the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate, he said.
District BJP president Napanda Ravi Kalappa said that the Congress-led state government filed cases against BJP leaders when the latter conducted a protest in Virajpet, opposing hike in fuel prices by the state government. The government is suppressing dissent across the state, he alleged.
Leaders Mahesh Jaini, Chalan Kumar, Manu Manjunath, Subrahmanya Upadhyaya, B K Arun Kumar and others took part in the protest.
