Kodagu Superintendent of Police (SP) K Ramarajan has recently warned that strict action will be taken against those spreading fake news on social media. The SP said that a post warning people not to drive on Periyapatna-Maldare-Siddapura-Virajpet road after midnight due to presence of dacoits on the stretch was being circulated on social media. However, the post was verified and found to be fake, the SP added. Ramarajan said that any news without verifying its authenticity should not be posted and circulated on social media.
