Two dead bodies of wild elephants were found in two different places of Kodagu district. One at a coffee plantation near 7th Hoskote of Sunticoppa and another at a plantation in Tyagattur village of Kushalanagar. Approximatelya 20-year-old wild elephant was found in a coffee plantation near Hoskote. Madikeri DFO Bhaskar, ACF Gopal, RFO Ratan, DRFO Devaiah and staff visited the incident site and conducted an inspection. A post mortem was conducted on the spot and buried. The officials informed that the exact cause of wild elephant death will be known only after the postmortem report.
In the other incidence, it came to light that a 20-year-old male elephant died in the garden of Tyagattur village. It was reported that when the workers were going to work inside the coffee plantation, they found the dead body of a wild elephant and informed the forest department officials. The officials visited the spot and conducted inspection. It is suspected that wild elephant may have died of illness about one week back.
Wildlife Forest Officer Dr. Chittiyappa conducted the postmortem examination. Later, a pit was dug and the body of the elephant was buried. Madikeri DCF Shankar, Somwarpet Taluk ACF A A Gopal, Zonal Forest Officer Ratan Kumar, Sub Zonal Forest Officer Subraya, Forest Department staff visited the spot and conducted inspection.
