Kodagu Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Returning Officer Dr Venkat Raja speaking at a meeting regarding postal ballot at DC’s office hall informed that in connection with the Lok Sabha general elections, no one including people above 85 years of age and disabled should be deprived of voting.

DC requested people above 85 years of age and disabled people to go to polling stations, if possible, to exercise their vote and informed that those who are unable to go to the polling station to vote can exercise their right to vote by postal ballot.

The DC directed the concerned officials to take necessary action regarding this. Once an application for postal voting is made, there is no opportunity to go to the polling station to vote. Dr Venkat Raja suggested that voters should be convinced regarding this issue.  As directed by the Election Commission, the postal ballot should be distributed within the specified date and the confirmation letter should be obtained.

He directed Sector Officers and Polling Station Officers to visit house to house and take necessary steps to distribute Form-12D.

DC also said that the information about the figures distributed about postal ballots should be submitted to the polling station officials as soon as possible.

Additional Deputy commissioner B N Veena said that about 12 departments will come under the Department of Essential Services, and a list of postal ballots including officers and staff performing election duties has been sent. She also informed that there are more than 5000 people above 85 years and 4000 people with disabilities. Postal Ballot Nodal Officer Anita Bhaskar, NIC Ajith gave detail information about Postal Ballot. K C Dayanand, Vijay, Nagaraja Achar, Sanjay Kumar and others were present in the meeting.
