The Karnataka Media Academy will establish a national-level endowment award in the name of senior journalist T.J.S. George for editors of media organizations, announced Legislative Council Member K. Shivakumar.
He made the announcement while speaking at the Karnataka Media Academy after receiving an award. Shivakumar said he had already instituted the “Silent Hero Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Endowment Award” for columnists who write on social justice at the Karnataka Media Academy. He recalled that T.J.S. George, who passed away recently, was an impartial journalist who personally edited and guided reporters’ work.
He stated that an endowment fund of Rs. 1.5 lakh would be created in George’s name to recognize journalists working with integrity and fairness at the national level. Shivakumar added that he continues to remain a part of the journalism fraternity and assured that he would raise issues concerning journalists and the field of journalism in the Legislative Council. Reflecting on his long career as a journalist and his time at the Academy, he said he would always extend his support to the Academy’s initiatives.
Academy President Ayesha Khanam, in her address, said that Shivakumar’s three-decade-long journalism career is marked by dedication and precision in reporting. She stated that his election as a Legislative Council member brings pride to the journalism community and expressed confidence that he would continue to be closely associated with the Academy and champion journalists’ causes. Academy Members K. Ningajja, K. Venkatesh, Shivananda Tagadoor, Abbas Mulla, and others spoke on the occasion.
